About Us

Gablemarine is the trading name of GableCom Ltd a UK company established in 1999 to provide consulting services to industry.

Gablemarine founder, Rowland Smith, a Naval Architect, has over 20 years experience in commercial and marine consultancy and is a past Director of CEproof International Ltd the leading provider of RCD compliance systems to the marine industry.

Rowland, like many of our Clients is a keen sailor and racer both in fast dinghies and from 2001 until very recently, as the co-owner/skipper of the 1952 Arthur Robb designed Lion class yacht 'Leonie', here seen competing in the round the island race during the British Classic Yacht Club regatta at Cowes, IOW.

2010 Rolex MBA Regatta, Portofino, ItalyRowland is an alumni from Cranfield School of Management and in 2010 skippered a Cranfield entry at both the Cranfield MBA Regatta (UK) and at the Rolex MBA Regatta at Portofino, Italy where his boat was placed second to the local team from over 40 entries, narrowly missing the Rolex watch awarded to the winning skipper.  The picture to the left shows Rowland relaxing between races.

The same crew took third place in the 2012 Portofino regatta with the local team SDA Bocconi, second and a team from Lake Geneva (CH) taking the watch.  The format of this regatta is unusual having two days of fleet racing (Beneteau 36.7) followed by a match racing final in smaller J80 sports boats for the top four teams.  Given our limited match racing experience this makes winning the Rolex something of a challenge against experienced crews.  Perhaps next year....

Whilst the CE Marking service remains at its core, the scope of Gablemarine activities now extends to include a full range of boat search, boat import and boat shipping services.  Unlike some, we don't just concentrate on the easier Sports Boats, but can provide a CE marking service for all sizes and types of sailing and powered craft, as well as undertake noise testing and the preparation of structural and stability data, both for builders and importers (PCA) alike.

We are pleased to be able to offer local support in the US and most EU countries, through a network of partners and affiliates.

We are happy to undertake special projects (such as Alpha Z, see our dedicated AlphaZ 33 project page for more details) providing project management as well as technical skills.

As with all our work, attention to detail, accurate representation, mutual trust and value, form the basis of our approach.
