UKAS - Supporting Independent CE inspection

UKAS is the UK Standards Authority, the body tasked with ensuring that the certification bodies (Notified Bodies or NoBos) operating in the UK do so in accordance with Europe wide legislation.  They ensure Notified Bodies act independently and this extends to those professionals working on their behalf.  This includes Gablemarine, who are authorized as CE inspectors by HPI Verification Services (Notified Body # 1521).

UKAS has recently asked for Gablemarine to clarify its position with regard to the CE services it offers and their independence from other services arranged or provided by Gablemarine to Clients importing craft from the US.

As a result Gablemarine has agreed to cease all direct involvement in the purchase of boats on behalf of clients.  We will no longer offer boats for purchase to Clients.  Instead we will suggest places to look and other companies who can assist in the purchase process, but stay at arms length during the transaction.

Gablemarine will continue to offer pre-purchase CE advice to enable buyers to minimize the risk of serious compliance issues arising after purchase.

We appreciate the full support shown by both UKAS and HPIvS in this matter and will continue to offer a inspection, analysis and certification services to demonstrate CE compliance for all European clients.
