If you're importing a recreational craft from outside the EEA then you will need to have the craft CE marked before you place it on the market (if selling) or in the water (if using). There are some exemptions. Click on the links below for:
For boats routed via the UK or Holland, there is no advantage to undertaking the CE marking in the USA. For boats routed though other EEA countries it is wise to have the CE marking done in the USA, so that the process is complete before the boat arrives.

Each boat must be personally inspected, on behalf of the EU Notified Body. From inspection to completion, of the relevent paperwork, normally takes between one and three weeks depending on workload, both for Gablemarine and our Notified Body. Click the following links for:

Since 2006, emissions have played a significant part in the CE marking of craft and can represent the single greatest cost where conformity issues exist. Generally speaking, few if any engines of 10 years or more are likely to meets the emissions requirements and must thus be replaced to achieve conformity. A small sports boat starts at around GBP 1,350 rising to GBP 1,750 for a mid sized sports cruiser. Displacement motor boats and sailing yachts are more, largely due to the complex systems onboard and the desire to claim conformity in the higher (A/B) design categories.
