False Noise

Noise testing is required for any craft which does not have an integral exhaust (ie sterndrive) or for which previous (noise emissions) certification for similar craft doesn't exist.

Performing a noise test requires expensive sound metering equipment, a calm day and time.

We are aware that some of our competitors (especially US based) will say noise tests are not required, knowing that they are.  The reality is that these companies or individuals don't have the capability to perform noise testing and thus avoid them.

But, I hear you say, how can they get certification from a Notified Body in such cases?  The answer is simple, they lie, telling the Notified Body that the boats are equiped with sterndrives when they are not.  Since the Notified Body works on the basis of the information presented, they are technically not at fault (though they should act diligently in questioning why some larger craft might be fitted with sterndrives). 

Unfortunately for you, whilst you get your CE, this can and increasing will be challenged by the authorities.  It is YOU who are responsible for compliance (for ten years) and YOU the authorities will challenge and pursue.  The company or individual that provided the CE will be long gone.

So, when we say a noise test is required and others say not, ask why.  It's in your interest...
